Kos oder Cos ist eine griechische Insel, Teil der Dodekanes-Inselkette im südöstlichen Ägäischen Meer, vor der anatolischen Küste der Türkei. Die Hauptstadt der Insel und Sitz der Gemeinde ist die Stadt Kos. Die Insel verfügt über eine Festung aus dem 14. Jahrhundert am Eingang ihres Hafens, die 1315 von den Rittern des Johanniterordens errichtet wurde, und eine weitere aus der byzantinischen Zeit in Antimachia. Die Antike Agora. Der antike Marktplatz von Kos galt als einer der größten in der antiken Welt. Bei Ausgrabungen auf der westlichen Seite führten zu Funden von Räumen mit Mosaikböden, die Tierkämpfe zeigten, ein in Kos sehr beliebtes Thema.
